Paramount Global’s popular TV channels, including CBS, Nickelodeon, and MTV, are set to go dark on YouTube TV starting this Thursday due to a contract dispute between the two companies. The disagreement stems from failed negotiations over new terms, leaving millions of subscribers at risk of losing access to their favorite shows and live programming.
Why Are Paramount Channels Leaving YouTube TV?
On Wednesday, Paramount accused YouTube TV of attempting to impose “one-sided terms” and “non-market demands,” which the company believes would negatively impact its business. A Paramount spokesperson stated that they have made “a series of fair offers” to maintain the partnership with YouTube TV but have yet to reach an agreement.
YouTube, which is owned by Alphabet Inc., responded by saying they are actively negotiating to keep Paramount’s channels on the platform without affecting user experience. However, they acknowledged the possibility of an extended blackout and assured subscribers that they would receive an $8 credit if the dispute remains unresolved.
Which Channels Will Be Affected?
If the contract expiration goes into effect, YouTube TV subscribers will lose access to major Paramount-owned networks, including:
- CBS (and its sports division, CBS Sports Network)
- Nickelodeon
- BET
- MTV
- Comedy Central
- Paramount Network

Additionally, add-on services such as Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+ may also be impacted.
What Happens Next?
Contract disputes between content providers and streaming platforms are not uncommon, but the outcome remains uncertain. YouTube TV’s willingness to offer financial compensation to users suggests that they are preparing for a prolonged standoff. Meanwhile, Paramount continues to push for what it deems fairer terms to sustain its business model.
As negotiations continue, YouTube TV users will have to wait and see whether the two companies can come to an agreement—or if they will need to find alternative ways to access their favorite shows.
