Baidu Unveils 30,000 Kunlun Chips for AI Training: A Game-Changer in Deep Learning Models

Baidu, China’s leading search engine giant, has made a major leap in artificial intelligence (AI) by unveiling its latest AI infrastructure at its annual developer conference.

The company revealed that it has successfully “illuminated” a cluster of 30,000 of its self-developed third-generation P800 Kunlun chips, a significant step forward in AI model training. This breakthrough promises to support the development of DeepSeek-like models, which are known for their ability to handle vast amounts of data and fine-tune models with billions of parameters.

The term “illuminated,” used by Baidu’s CEO Robin Li, refers to the activation of the 30,000-chip cluster, signaling that the hardware is ready for AI training tasks. This new setup is designed to support the training of DeepSeek-like models with hundreds of billions of parameters, which are essential for handling complex AI tasks. According to Li, the P800 cluster can simultaneously accommodate a thousand customers fine-tuning models, each containing billions of parameters.
