Trump’s $400M Jet Gift from Qatar Sparks Unlikely Backlash – Even MAGA Loyalists Are Furious

In a rare twist of political fate, both critics and loyal supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump are uniting—not in celebration, but in outrage—over a controversial luxury jet reportedly gifted to the U.S. government by the Qatari royal family.

The luxury aircraft, a Boeing 747-8 valued at an estimated $400 million, has ignited a firestorm in American politics. The jet is intended for use by the Department of Defense as part of the Air Force One fleet. But many across the political spectrum view the gesture not as a gift, but a potential geopolitical maneuver with far-reaching implications.

Though the deal is technically between governments, and not a personal gift to Trump, the optics are causing concern. Trump says the aircraft will be transferred to his presidential library at the end of his term, yet that hasn’t quieted the backlash.

Even MAGA influencers—typically Trump’s most vocal cheerleaders—have called the move out, labeling it a “bribe,” a “Trojan horse,” and a symbol of corruption Trump once vowed to fight. Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro sarcastically noted, “I think the technical term is ‘skeezy,’” questioning Qatar’s intentions and pointing to past allegations of the nation funding terrorism, which Qatar has repeatedly denied.

Further complicating matters, critics cite potential national security risks. Senator Ted Cruz warned of espionage and surveillance issues, while Senator Rand Paul expressed concerns about how such a gift could cloud U.S. judgment on Qatar’s human rights record.

On social media, pro-Trump figures like Laura Loomer voiced dismay, sharing illustrations of the jet as a Trojan Horse filled with terrorists. The Democratic National Committee even flew a banner over Trump’s Florida resort reading, “Qatar-a-Lago,” poking fun at the controversy.

The White House responded by emphasizing transparency, stating that the gift complies with legal requirements. Trump’s spokesperson noted that no personal benefit is involved, and the jet will serve national interests.

Still, questions persist. Critics have pointed out that Pam Bondi, who cleared the deal’s legality, previously lobbied for Qatar and earned substantial sums doing so. At the same time, the Trump Organization has ongoing business ventures in the country, including a new luxury golf resort.

During a press conference, Trump dismissed ethical concerns, calling a reporter’s question “embarrassing” and doubling down on social media: “Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country.”

Whether this scandal dents Trump’s political capital remains to be seen. As GOP strategist Doug Heye put it, “Trump has turned scandals that would bury other politicians into moments of triumph. He’s skilled at survival.”

But with bipartisan doubts swirling and the shadow of foreign influence looming, even Trump’s grip on the narrative may be tested.
