In a heated statement that’s already igniting global headlines, U.S. President Donald Trump has labeled Russian President Vladimir Putin as “absolutely CRAZY” following the most intense aerial assault on Ukraine since the war began. The fiery remarks came after Russia launched a massive overnight attack involving 355 drones and nine cruise missiles—marking what Ukraine claims to be the largest drone offensive of the conflict so far.
Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump didn’t hold back. “Something has happened to him (Putin). He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” Trump wrote. “I’ve always said he wants all of Ukraine, not just a piece, and if he continues, it could mean the end of Russia.”
At the same time, Trump made waves by criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, saying that his public comments are “not helping his country” and “need to stop.” Trump’s dual criticism stirred both political camps, drawing responses from Kyiv and Moscow alike.
The Kremlin, reacting to Trump’s statement, did not deny the scale of the assault but attributed Trump’s remarks to emotional strain. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov suggested that Trump—like many global leaders—may be “emotionally overloaded” by the ongoing war.
The massive drone and missile strike targeted multiple Ukrainian regions, including the western Khmelnytskyi area, home to a major military airbase. Officials said residential and industrial buildings suffered damage, with one 14-year-old boy injured in Odesa. Russia confirmed that its strike was aimed at military facilities in retaliation for alleged Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilians.
Despite the destruction, Ukraine’s air force managed to intercept many of the threats, though they did not provide a full breakdown of the damage. Ukraine continues to call for greater international pressure, with President Zelenskiy emphasizing that only force and sanctions can restrain Moscow’s aggression.
Speaking to reporters in New Jersey, Trump added, “I don’t know what’s wrong with him. What the hell happened to him? He’s killing a lot of people. I’m not happy about that.” The president also hinted that new sanctions against Russia may be on the table.

This fresh escalation in hostilities comes as both sides dig in deeper with little progress toward peace. Trump has publicly pushed for negotiations but has been unable to close the wide gap between the two warring nations. Meanwhile, European leaders hope Trump’s vocal outrage might finally turn into actionable policy—namely, new sanctions that could pressure Putin into changing course.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed optimism that Trump’s remarks signal a turning point, potentially leading the U.S. to take stronger action. The Kremlin, however, remains firm in its stance, calling the war a “special military operation” to protect against NATO expansion—a claim Ukraine and its allies reject as a smokescreen for unprovoked aggression.
As the war grinds on, the world watches closely—wondering whether Trump’s strong words will translate into meaningful change or simply add more fuel to an already volatile fire.
