Moviegoers are up in arms as AMC Theatres announces a major price hike for its Stubs A-List membership, with certain states hit the hardest. But is it still worth it?

AMC Theatres has revealed plans to raise the cost of its Stubs A-List membership, sparking widespread frustration among film lovers. This move comes on the heels of Netflix’s recent price hike, leaving many subscribers feeling the squeeze.

How Much More Will You Pay?

Currently, the AMC Stubs A-List subscription costs $22.95 per month in most states, while residents of California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts pay $24.95. Starting May 7, 2025, the new pricing structure will be:

California and New York: $27.99 per month

All other states: $25.99 per month

This increase means moviegoers in California and New York will pay $5 more per month, while others will see a $3 increase.

What’s Changing with the Subscription?

While the price hike has drawn criticism, AMC is adding a new perk to soften the blow. Subscribers will now be able to watch up to four movies per week instead of three. Additionally, members will continue to enjoy premium formats like IMAX and Dolby Cinema at no extra charge.

Another notable change is that AMC is lowering the minimum age requirement for an A-List membership from 16 to 13 years old, expanding access to younger movie fans.

Is AMC Stubs A-List Still Worth It?

Despite the backlash, some subscribers argue that the A-List membership remains a great deal. With individual movie tickets often costing around $15 or more, the ability to watch up to 16 movies per month for about $26 still represents significant savings.

AMC CEO Adam Aron defended the price increase, stating:
“Even with this necessary price adjustment, the cost of an A-List membership will still be less than seeing two movies per month as a non-member, especially for those watching films in premium formats or booking tickets online.”

How Are Moviegoers Reacting?

Fans have taken to social media to express their frustration, with some questioning whether the increase is justified.

“I don’t know anyone actually watching four movies a week. Who’s even using this to its full potential?” one user posted.

“AMC A-List going up AGAIN?! Is it really worth it at this point?” another fumed.

“Good thing I canceled mine before the price increase,” a former subscriber wrote.

However, some movie lovers argue that the A-List membership is still a bargain.

“Four movies per week for $26?? That’s a steal! One IMAX ticket alone costs more than that,” a fan countered.

“People just love to complain. If you’re a real moviegoer, this is still a great deal,” another added.

Final Thoughts

AMC’s price hike is undoubtedly frustrating for many, especially in states where the cost will exceed $27 per month. However, with the added benefit of an extra weekly movie and continued access to premium formats, some still see it as a cost-effective option for frequent moviegoers.
