At a recent investor event in Brooklyn, Yum! announced a $1 billion investment in digital and AI-driven technology, showcasing its latest innovation—the “Byte AI Restaurant Coach.” This AI-powered tool is designed to assist managers in optimizing labor, inventory, and operational efficiency.

How AI is Transforming Taco Bell’s Operations

With over 500 Taco Bell locations now using AI-powered drive-through systems, the company is making a bold push toward automation. At the investor event, executives demonstrated the AI tool through a video skit, illustrating how it supports managers in real-time decision-making.

For instance, the AI assistant can notify a manager when a scheduled employee hasn’t clocked in and even suggest solutions like adjusting shifts or handling drive-through operations autonomously. Additionally, the AI can analyze customer traffic, recommend extending business hours based on competitor trends, and assist in inventory calculations—all in an effort to improve efficiency without reducing labor costs.

Taco Bell isn’t the only brand exploring AI-driven innovations. Other fast-food giants like McDonald’s and Chipotle have been experimenting with AI and automation to streamline operations.
