Elon Musk’s DOGE Rolls Out AI Chatbot to Automate Government Tasks

A custom AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s DOGE is reportedly being deployed to assist U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) workers with daily tasks. The chatbot, called GSAi, is designed to improve efficiency by automating administrative functions, including drafting emails, creating talking points, summarizing text, and even writing code.

AI Takes Over Government Tasks

According to a report from Wired, GSA employees can now choose from three AI models within GSAi:

  • Claude Haiku 3.5 (the default model)
  • Claude Sonnet 3.5 v2
  • Meta Llama 3.2

While the chatbot is intended to analyze contract and procurement data, workers have been strictly advised not to enter sensitive or classified information into the system. Memos obtained by Wired emphasize that federal nonpublic data, personally identifiable information (PII), and controlled unclassified information should not be shared with the AI.

Government Layoffs and the Push for AI

The GSA has been hit hard by the U.S. federal government’s mass job cuts, with reports indicating that over 1,000 workers have been laid off, including around 90 employees from its tech branch. As agencies struggle with workforce reductions, AI tools like GSAi are being introduced to fill the gaps.

The chatbot was initially tested among a small group of employees before its wider rollout to 1,500 GSA workers. There are plans to expand its usage further in the future, potentially making AI an even bigger part of government operations.

What’s Next for AI in Government?

The introduction of AI chatbots in government agencies marks a major shift in how administrative work is handled. While tools like GSAi may boost productivity, concerns about job security, data privacy, and ethical AI use remain.

As AI continues to integrate into federal operations, it raises questions: Will more jobs be replaced by automation? How secure is government data in AI-driven systems?
